komorebi is a japanese word for something that has no direct translation in english. it is the light that filters through leaves, that specific, fleeting quality of sunshine that breaks through a canopy and falls in scattered patterns on the ground below. it cannot be forced. it cannot be scheduled. it arrives when conditions allow, and when it does, you feel it in a way that is difficult to explain but impossible to ignore. this piece was made to hold that feeling.
the rays pour down from the top of the canvas in blush and cream, radiating outward the way light does when it has finally found its opening. below, the sage green waves rise and fall in soft undulation, not fighting the light but moving beneath it, the way the earth receives what falls on it without resistance. the two halves of this composition exist in quiet agreement. the light comes, and the ground is ready.
